Rembrandt in Confidence

With the fall 2016 season beckoning, Paris is chock full of cultural and art events. Here are some of our top picks.

42nd Street

In the past ten years, Theatre du Chatelet has produced a series of classic Broadway musicals for the first time in Paris with much acclaim. Past productions included Into the Woods, The Sound of Music, The King and I and West Side Story. This season they are proud to present the quintessential musical, 42nd Street. Set in the height of the Depression in 1929, the story revolves around a Broadway producer down on his luck after his leading lady is injured right before the show goes on and how he miraculously replaces her with an undiscovered new talent. The show is presented in English with French subtitles and remains faithful to the original production with music by Harry Warren, lyrics by Al Dubin and the dazzling tap dancing choreography by Gower Champion

Rembrandt in Confidence

The greatest of the 17th century Dutch painters, Rembrandt, is having a rare and privileged showing of his works. In the late 1800s avid art collectors Édouard André and Nélie Jacquemart acquired three Rembrandt paintings from 1629, 1632 and 1656, which illustrate the important stages of Rembrandt’s career. The three paintings, along with 20 others plus 30 drawings, comprise the exhibition, tracing Rembrandt’s crucial stages of his developing artistry.

the treachery of images rene magritteMagritte –The Treachery of Images

Belgian-born Rene Magritte was one of the defining artists of the Surrealist art movement in the early 20th century. Magritte’s work is being newly conceived in an exhibition at the Centre Pompidou based on five figures he frequently referenced: fire, shadows, curtains, words and the fragmented body. Over 100 paintings, drawings and archived documents question the use of resemblance and realism in Magritte’s work.
