Report - French Air Traffic Controllers Strike ContinuesJune 12, 2013 By: Adam Leposa
The strike by French air traffic controllers is continuing to disrupt air travel in Europe.
In a statement released on its website early Wednesday morning, Air France “strongly advised” its passengers to postpone their trip until after June 13. Air France expects to transport all its passengers traveling on long-haul flights on June 12. The airline expects the situation to “gradually return to normal” on June 13.
CNN reports that about half the flights at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport have been canceled due to the strike, and that overall, 2,000 flights across Europe were canceled Tuesday. Charles de Gaulle, Toulouse and Marseille are the airports most affected by the strike.
The strike is to express opposition to the updated “Single European Sky” initiative, adopted Tuesday by the European Commission, CNN says.
The BBC reports that Ryanair has released a statement asking the European Commission to remove the air traffic controllers’ right to strike, calling the strike action “grossly unfair.”
