Le Meridien Bora Bora Unveils Multi-Million RenovationMarch 20, 2009 By: Mark Rogers
Le Méridien Bora Bora is knee-deep in a renovation of features across the resort, including Premium Overwater Bungalows and new Pool Beach Villas, while adding a new resort pool, chapel, ecological center and fitness center. The renovations began last January; Here’s a breakdown on when various renovation projects will be completed.
The Pool Beach Villas will be a new class of accommodations at the resort. These will have a private infinity swimming pool with surrounding wooden terrace and views of the interior lagoon and Otemanu Mountain. The eight-foot-by-16-foot pools will connect two existing beach bungalows. This will allow different options for guests: either reserving an entire pool beach villa with pool and deck access (two bedroom suites with living room), or one bedroom suite with one living room and pool deck access. The new villas are a good choice for families with direct access to the interior lagoon for snorkeling and swimming in the Turtle Sanctuary. The Pool Beach Villas are expected to be finished by May 15.
Each of the resort’s 22 Premium Overwater Bungalows now feature unobstructed views of Otemanu Mountain. Additionally, these bungalows will also receive deck extensions which will double in size. This is expected to be completed by the end of March.
The new glass-bottom wedding chapel will be located over the interior lagoon. Although weddings in Tahiti have no legal value for Americans, it’s a romantic touch for those who want to complement their legal wedding with a traditional Polynesian ceremony. A Tahitian priest will conduct the ceremony, invoking the god “Taaroa” to solemnize the bride and groom. This is expected to be complete by May 1.
A new Ecological Center will provide educational programs for guests and locals. The ecological center will be located near the resort’s Turtle Sanctuary. This is a joint effort joint effort between the resort and the island’s Ministry and Delegation of the Environment. This project will begin in the spring and is expected to be complete by the end of December.
Some of the renovations have already been completed. All 99 of the resort’s accommodations have already received new flat-screen TVs and video on demand, as well as wireless Internet access. A second infinity-style pool has also been added added beneath the Miki Miki Bar. The pool will be over 2000 square feet and will have a Jacuzzi, waterfall, pool bar and new deck.
