Air Berlin to Join oneworld Alliance, Codeshare with American

July 27, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox

Good news for travelers heading to—and from—Germany: The Wall Street Journal and other sources are reporting that Air Berlin and American Airlines confirmed a codesharing agreement Tuesday that will allow customers to book travel and earn frequent flyer miles on each other's flights.

Air Berlin will also join the oneworld Alliance, making it the first discount airline to join a major cooperative between global airlines and expand oneworld's offerings in Europe.

Air Berlin Chief Executive Joachim Hunold told reporters in Berlin that the codeshare with American Airlines would begin this winter. Air Berlin's participation in Oneworld would start in 2012.
