Lufthansa Pilot Strike Enters Second Day

April 3, 2014

Lufthansa's pilot strike has entered its second day, causing further flight disruptions. As Deutsche Welle is reporting, the company is facing the loss of millions of dollars, and has called for talks with the pilots to resume as soon as possible.

An estimated 425,000 passengers were expected to be affected by the strike, currently scheduled to last until midnight on Friday. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that 3,800 flights will be grounded over the full term of the strike, currently slated to run through Friday. Lufthansa's homepage has updates on the situation and tips for travelers.

The airline has reached out to passengers to help them rebook their flights, and the Journal is reporting that the atmosphere at the Frankfurt airport was calm on the first day of the strike, as most passengers had received ample warning about the walkout. Frankfurt and other airports have set out cots and other amenities for stranded passengers until the situation is resolved.
