Good news for travelers looking to fly between Germany and New York City: On March 30, Lufthansa will resume A380 service from Frankfurt to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. The flights — LH400/LH401— will operate during the summer schedule, which lasts through October.
This will be the third season in which Lufthansa will fly the A380 to New York’s JFK, which also happens to be the first North American station that serviced the aircraft type when it first touched down on February 28, 2011. Flights are available for booking on www.lh.com.
Juergen Siebenrock, Lufthansa's vice president for the Americas, noted that New York is one of the airline's "most important markets," and that resuming service made sense to accommodate increased demand.
Lufthansa’s A380 is configured with 526 seats, which results in a 25 percent capacity increase on this route, and includes the airline’s new First Class product. Located on the upper deck, this space is the quietest cabin in commercial aviation and includes an air humidification system that improves air humidity to help fight off jet lag. Two large bathrooms with separate changing and lavatory areas offer enhanced personal space and storage. The cabin’s eight seats measure 6’9” feet in length and 2’7” feet in width.
Also located on the upper deck is the world’s largest Business Class cabin with 98 seats, featuring improved functionality, including more storage and a power supply that works with all worldwide connections. The main deck is home to an impressively spacious Economy Class cabin. Each of the 420 seats has an in-seat video screen, an optimized ergonomic design and a slimmer seat back that adds two inches of personal space per passenger.
