On Site: Touring Dusseldorf's Steigenberger Park Hotel

DUSSELDORF - Travel Agent checked into the Steigenberger Park Hotel in Dusseldorf, Germany yesterday, July 22, where we met with General Manager Michael Kain and Sales Manager Lisa Homberg for a site inspection.

The five-star property was built in 1902, making it the oldest hotel in the city. It is comprised of 119 rooms and 11 suites. We are staying in room #305, a Deluxe Single Room, which is the second highest room category and one of the most recently renovated rooms. The best rooms in the house are the Suites, which include a living area, master bedroom and master bathroom with deep soaking tub and separate shower stall.

The hotel was most recently renovated in 2006 but is planning to undergo new renovations this November, as 80 rooms will receive new color schemes and new furniture. In February of 2011, the hotel plans to renovate both of its bars and its restaurant. The renovations will also include a new bistro with a terrace and an area devoted specifically to hosting a wide selection of champagne. The property is looking to achieve a younger feel, while still retaining its five-star elegance.

Note: Much of Dusseldorf is under construction, including the space right in front of the hotel, as the city expands its metro service. We were told that the construction is expected to wrap up in 2013, but the hope is that the majority of the work will be moved underground by 2012.
