Following several notable strikes over the past year, Lufthansa is facing (at least) one more: According to its website, the pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit has announced a strike for all Lufthansa flights operated by the aircraft types A320, Boeing 737, and Embraer departing from Monday afternoon through midnight (local time) Tuesday night.
During the strike period, disruptions of Lufthansa short- and medium-haul flights are expected. For Tuesday, October 21, the strike has been extended to Lufthansa intercontinental flights as well.

Flights operated by the Lufthansa Group airlines Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Germanwings, SWISS and Air Dolomiti (operated by OS, SN, 4U, LX, EN) will not be affected and are expected to operate as scheduled.

As Deutsche Welle noted, this is the eighth such work stoppage to hit Europe's largest airline in just over six months. Prior to the addition of the long-haul pilots, Lufthansa had canceled 1,450 short and medium-haul flights, grounding more than 130,000 passengers.

While 2,150 flights were originally affected by the Lufthansa strike, the paper notes that volunteer pilots and assistance from other airlines managed to save 700 connections.
