Tee-Off At The World's Longest Course

It was announced Tuesday in Agence France-Press that the world's longest golf course (a whopping 848 miles) will be unveiled along a stretch of desert highway in Australia for its inaugural tournament on October 22.

The Nullarbor Links will span two time zones and will be longer than the length of Britain. "This is the longest golf course in the world. It's unique terrain, there's something for everybody," project chairman Don Harrington told AFP.

The course was dreamed up five years ago by Bob Bongiorno "over a couple of beers," and is designed to attract tourists to Australia's Nullarbor Plain and southern coastline.

Each hole (sometimes located as far as 60 miles from each other) will feature a local attraction, from whale-watching to the Big Kangaroo statue at Border Village.

"Both Australian tourists and golfing enthusiasts around the world have shown support for what we're doing," adds Harrington.
