ICAO Joins Global Travel Association CoalitionDecember 16, 2013 By: Newswire
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has joined with a number of other organizations that constitute the Global Travel Association Coalition (GTAC).
GTAC, as it is known, exists to promote a better understanding of travel and tourism's role as a driver of economic growth and employment and fosters governments to develop policies which contribute to the profitable, sustainable and long-term growth of the industry.
GTAC is now comprised of Airports Council International (ACI), Cruise Line International Association (CLIA), International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), World Economic Forum (WEF), World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
David Scowsill, president said CEO of WTTC, said, "The Global Travel Association Coalition has no offices, no staff and no budget. It doesn't hold conferences, events or conduct research. It is not an organization or association in its own right. Instead, it is a collection of organizations and associations within the travel and tourism industry which have common goals and recognize the need to be aligned in their advocacy work and speak with one voice on the major issues. Together GTAC members share research and singular messaging, and work on issues such as barriers to growth and connectivity with a united industry voice."
In 2012 travel and tourism accounted for 260 million jobs globally. At US$6.6 trillion (9.3% of GDP) the sector is a key driver for investment and economic growth.
