The saga of YTB International continues with Lisa Madigan, attorney general of Illinois, filing charges against YTB alleging violation of the state’s Consumer Fraud Act. In a filing with the Circuit Court of the Sixth District in Champaign County, the attorney general seeks to prohibit YTB from sales or promotion of any “multi-level marketing plan or pyramid scheme” and asks for civil and statutory penalties of $100,000. The Illinois action follows the California’s State Attorney General winning a $1 million judgment against YTB.

Dear Jeff-Did it ever occur to you Tracy & Sue can't type? Of course not. Read Carole's post. Does it make sense to you? Especially the last paragraph? If it does you are in need of some serious intervention.
JJ: Seems your GED advice applies equally to "real" travel agents; read Tracy's comments. Sue the CTC she is, also is English impaired.
Oh well, looks like the Illinois Court has found the state's case to be not worthwhile.
Why is it that when people make a wrong decision, like they didn't know they had to work to make money in YTB, they are looking for someone to blame. Kinda like sueing the fast food industry for getting fat from eating fast food! If you work YTB, you do make money selling travel!! It's a great company that continues to do more and more for us and help us grow our knowledge of travel and our business. SHAME on those that badmouth YTB!!
And, I am confident that Illinois will do what California didn't----shut them down. Read the suit. Illinois has a lot more teeth to their suit than California did. They want more money. And, Lisa Madigan is a consumer advocate and a pit bull. You go Lisa shut em down.
IF you are serious about booking travel there are other options out there that will pay you a better commission split, are reputable without all the baggage YTB comes with. This should be a business decision NOT an emotional one. What CA did not do, IL will. Don't be naive. YTB is not a viable option at this point. Carole-Your post makes absolutely zero sense. Perhaps you need to take that money you made with YTB and get your GED.
Being a real travelagent, it is about time thatsomeone does something about YTB and their fradelant active about being able to call themselves travel agents. I woudl 24/7/365 for my clients, I book their travel not my website. I answer their questions, given them information about their destinations for very little pay at the end of the day. I have heard numerous complaints from people all over the country that have had problems using YTB and their websites to know that many will no longer use a real tarvel agent as these people misrepresent who and what they are, the general public thinks all travel agents are bogus now. YTB and their ilk have damage the image of real travel agents. And it is about time that something is done about them.
I am a YTB RTA and I don't want their money. I book travel and have made far more than 39.00 I open my mouth and tell be to book travel on my sight they do. I have made back my investment big time.
Key word not put YTB out of business but stop network marketing that is the real problem. And give money back to the poor stupid RTA please the state will make the money just like CA. Dose the word franchise sound better to the average person. LOL
I am confident that, as with the California judgment, YTB will come out of the Illinois court gleaming and ready to take care of business. Thank you very much.
Mr. Dooley you are missing the penalties. Illinois is seeking $50,000 for EACH violation (RTA Website in Illinois) for EACH of 2 counts. There are approximately 5000 RTAs in Illinois. So the penalties are $250 million PER COUNT for $500 million.
PLUS they are looking for 100% restitution for these same people. Assuming they paid at least $1000, that is another $5 million for a total of $501 million dollars.
