North Korea Travel Restrictions Loosen?

January 11, 2010 By: Meagan Drillinger

It was reported today in an official e-mail between North Korea's state-run travel company, The Korea International Travel Company, and Asia Pacific Travel Ltd that North Korea will decide "around January 25" as to whether or not Americans will be allowed to visit the country year-round.

Typically, American tourists are only permitted into North Korea for the Arirang synchronized gymnastics performance period, and they are only welcome in the country for a maximum of five days. The e-mail stated that the repeal of both restrictions are being taken into consideration.

Furthermore, Walter L. Keats, president of Asia Pacific Travel Ltd asked whether Americans can travel by rail from China, rather than flying into Pyongyang, which is very expensive.
