NTA: Government Shutdown is Bad News for Travel

April 8, 2011 By: George Dooley Travel Agent

As the Friday midnight deadline approaches for passing the U.S. budget, so does the reality of a federal government shutdown, the NTA said.

“For the travel industry, the budget impasse means that, starting Saturday, federally managed sites will be closed: national parks, monuments, forests, etc., including the Smithsonian museums. It also means that operators cannot make advance reservations at those destinations.”

“A federal shutdown also impacts inbound and outbound travel, as visa and passport processing will be delayed, the NTA said, pledging to monitor the situation, including the impact on private businesses in national parks.
