Travel Tech Applauds Supreme Court for Protecting Consumers

washington dcThe Travel Technology Association applauded the U.S. Supreme Court's denial of review of a lower court's decision on airline consumer regulations, essentially upholding the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) ability to promulgate and enforce airline consumer protection regulations.

“The DOT has taken actions to protect consumers from misleading tactics some airlines have used to display prices, taxes and fees,” said Simon Gros, Chairman of Travel Tech. “With the Supreme Court’s nod to uphold its authority, we expect the Department to move forward on the next round of rulemaking to clarify how airline ancillary fees should be displayed and transacted.”

Travel Tech, under its previous name, the Interactive Travel Services Association (ITSA), filed an amicus brief in support of the DOT rule. Travel Tech is the association for online travel companies (OTCs) and global distribution systems (GDSs). Members include: Amadeus, Expedia, Orbitz Worldwide, Priceline, Sabre Holdings, Travelport and Vegas.com.
