The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) is adding a new membership designation, the ASTA Green Member Program, which will educate agents on the and ins and outs of selling environmental-friendly travel and the specific suppliers who are working to green their products. Once green travel is understood by agents, they can impart their findings to their clients and help them make green choices when booking a vacation. The announcement was made Tuesday in New York in association with Travelport.

ASTA says that the green travel movement is quickly gaining steam as "more than half of all U.S. adults say they would be more likely to select an airline, rental car or hotel that uses more environmentally-friendly products and processes." This according to a joint survey by ASTA and Travelport. However, while many agents want to go green, understanding what that entails is necessary, so ASTA decided to provide its members with an instructional program.

Agents and suppliers who want to become Green Members must first be members of ASTA, then pay a $49 flat fee to receive the educational services. Visit www.asta.org.
