There was a time where “Luxury-Included” was considered an oxymoron for most all-inclusives throughout the Caribbean. Endless buffets, splashy Caribbean colors screaming all over your room, baby boomers doing the Macarena and itchy, scratchy wrist bands cutting into your skin by the third night never really screamed elegance.
And although they have revolutionized the way all-inclusive resorts offer luxury, there was a time when even the mighty Sandals Resorts did its share to feed the stereotype that all-inclusives were simply bargain bins for America’s loudest, most obnoxious tourists. Those days, for Sandals at least, officially ended roughly five years ago when it launched its new Luxury Included concept, which essentially wiped out all buffets and replaced them with gourmet dining options and raised the level of amenities from top-shelf alcohol to butler service to swimming pools on the balcony.
I must admit that I never stayed at the resort that practically serves as the flagship Luxury Included property, Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, The Bahamas. But if that resort was the just beginning of where Sandals wanted to be then I’m pretty sure I just saw the end game…for now.
