Sunrise Airways Shows Support of Stricter Safety Standards

sunrise airwaysSunrise Airways, Haiti’s newest homegrown airline, is speaking out in support of new, more stringent safety standards recently adopted by the Civil Aviation Authorities in Haiti, the Office National de l’Aviation Civile (OFNAC), and the Instituto Dominicano de Aviacion Civil (IDAC) in the Dominican Republic. The standards align with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 6 requirements.

These regulations require all aircraft operating between Haiti and the Dominican Republic to be equipped with Flight Data Recorders (FDR).

“Any regulations adopted in the name of passenger safety are always going to be welcomed by Sunrise Airways,” said Philippe Bayard, president of Sunrise Airways, in a written statement. “We applaud the ICAO alignment decisions of OFNAC and IDAC as they are right in line with our uncompromising commitment to safety and our mission to elevate the aviation sector in Haiti to First World standards.”

Sunrise Airways is currently the only Haitian airline operating between Santo Domingo and Port-au-Prince in compliance with the new OFNAC and IDAC regulation. The carrier operates regular charter flights between Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) in Port-au-Prince and La Isabella International Airport (JBQ) in Santo Domingo.

In July 2013, Sunrise Airways became the first-ever Haitian airline to join the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), an international non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to provide impartial, independent, expert safety guidance and resources for the aviation and aerospace industry.
