April 28, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox

Kona Beach HotelExciting news from the Big Island: This week marks the completion of a two-year, $35 million renovation of the King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel— the largest, most expensive and comprehensive enhancement undertaking in the hotel's 35 years of operation.
All 452 rooms, including five oceanfront one-bedroom suites, have been completely re-done. (Cool touch: The hardwood furnishings are enhanced with embossed Polynesian tattoo patterns.) The bathrooms have brand new bathtubs, sinks, furniture and fixtures. The hotel also has a new infinity-edged pool with Billfish Bar, lava-rock whirlpool, renovated dining room, and new retail shops.

General Manager Jak Hu has announced the appointment of Jit Jayakumar as travel industry sales manager for the hotel. Jayakumar has nearly 10 years of resort sales and operations experience, the last five spent in Hawaii. Jayakumar will be based on the West Coast and can be reached at 310-694-4709 or by email at [email protected].

In celebration of the completion of the $35 million dollar renovation, the hotel is offering a special introductory offer of $129 per night. This rate is fully commissionable and includes a complimentary upgrade to next available category and a free welcome amenity. There is no minimum-night stay required.
