The Renwick Hotel Will Open This Summer in NYC

Renwick Guest room

The Renwick Hotel will open this summer near Grand Central in Manhattan. The hotel, with a brick facade, was built in 1928, and it was once a long-stay hotel for artists and authors, including F. Scott Fitzgerald and Thomas Mann. This artistic past will inspire the Renwick’s interiors. There won’t be any framed art, but instead the hotel will display functional art, like three-dimensional coat hangers and ceramic pencil holders, created by local artists.

The Renwick gained its name from James Renwick Jr., the architect of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The interior designers Stonehill and Taylor plan to fill the loft-style guestrooms with creative furnishings that pay homage to Renwick and the previous residents. The rooms will have pattered carpets, paint-splattered concrete and leather-tufted headboards.

“Future guests of the Renwick can expect an unrivaled experience: one where comfort meets curiosity to ignite the spark of creativity" said Deborah Alarcon, general manager.

The Renwick is located at 118 E. 40th Street.
