50 Most Popular Destinations for February Holidays

February 4, 2010 By: Staff

Travelers are on the cusp of one of the greatest February vacation periods in awhile as Mardi Gras (February 16) follows Valentine's Day (February 14) and Presidents' Day (February 15). We've shared a few suggestions here and there for where to spend the holiday— whether it was one top 10 list or perhaps another, or specific suggestions for New York. So we thought we'd share's top 50 destinations list for the upcoming long weekend. New Orleans tops the list as it beat out last year's winner, Las Vegas. This was the highest ranking that New Orleans has received in a Top 50 survey since Hurricane Katrina.

To compile its list, looked at a sampling of more than 30,000 hotel room booking requests made by customers for the long weekend. Since the study is based on actual booking requests, and not on consumer preference polls or votes, the study can be considered an accurate predictor of future travel trends.

"The convenient juxtaposition of Sunday's Valentine's Day and Monday's national holiday makes an excellent excuse to get away for a few days," said Brian Ek, editor of The Travel Ekspert. "Lower-priced airfares for Saturday morning and Friday evening are selling fast, but there are still great fares available earlier in the day on Friday. Travelers who take the whole week off may find cheaper airfares than going away for the long weekend. This might be the trip to spoil yourself with a four- or even five-star hotel."
