Events in New York City on New Year’s Eve and Day (SLIDESHOW)

From Times Square in Manhattan to the train show in the Bronx, swimming in Brooklyn to a casino in Queens, and dining on Staten Island, there are numerous ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve and day in New York. NYC & Company, the offiical tourism organization on NYC, has composed a list for New Yorkers and visitors alike to celebrate the holiday.

Manahttan 

  • Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve: Taylor Swift is headlining the event with 37 other performances and hosted by Ryan Seacrest, starting at 8pm. For more information, visit dickclark.com
  • New Year’s Eve Wishing Wall: Inscribe your wish on the confetti that’s released in Times Square when the ball drops either online at timessquarenyc.org or in person at the mobile wishing wall.
  • Good Riddance Day: Cintas and Times Square will be offering a shredding truck on Dec. 28 where you can shred a bad memory, such as old parking tickets or that pile of old hefty electricity bills (just make sure they have been paid). Bad memories can also be tweeted @TimesSquareNYC and can qualify to win a trip to NYC for New Year’s Eve by submitting them here.
  • New Year’s Eve at the New York Marriott Marquis: Two parties are taking place on Dec 31 here. One is at the Broadway Lounge, eight stories above Times Square, where there will be live music, premium open bar and entertainment as well as seating arrangements available to watch the ball drop. 48 stories above Times Square, guests can dance the night away at The View Restaurant and Lounge New Year’s Eve gala. Dinner includes a five course meal, hors d’oeuvres and late night bites and there will be a DJ in addition to live streaming of the ball drop. There is an Ultimate Luxury New Year’s Eve package which includes limousine transportation and the two-bedroom presidential suite. For more information, visit Marriott.com.

  • Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square: With over 500 artifacts and 20 galleries, the event at Ripley’s will include an open bar, cocktail-style delicacies, and entertainment such as dancing, games, and Mad Science will be performing science projects.   • Ring in the Swing: Lincoln Center will be holding its New Year’s Eve Dance party for the third year in a row. The party is complete with views of Central Park and includes live jazz, a Southern-stype buffet dinner, open bar, champagne toast and party favors. For more information, visit jalc.org.
  • Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises: Party on a cruise that heads out to the Statue of Liberty for views of the fireworks, hors d’oeuvres, full open bar, party favors, a DJ and a champagne toast at midnight. Cruise boards at 9pm for a 10pm departure and sails until 1am. Early-bird tickets are available for $149 and be purchased at circleline42.com. Must be 18 years old to board and 21 years old to drink.
  • New York Philharmonic: Featuring a Gershwin Celebration, conducted by Bramwell Tovey and have vocalists Dianne Reeves and Norm Lewis. The show starts at 7:30pm and more information can be found at nyphil.org.
  • Emerald Nuts Midnight Run: Cash prizes are available for this 4-Mile run starting in Central Park at 11:59pm on New Year’s Eve. Prior to the run is dancing, music and a costume contest at 10pm. For more information, visit nyrr.org
  • World Yacht Cruises: Enjoy a five course dinner, open bar, live entertainment, fireworks all while cruising around the city. Additonally, there will be party favors and a midnight champagne toast.   • Madison Square Garden: Diplo and Skrillex will be performing their own sets throughout the night at this age 18+ concert event. For more information, visit Thegarden.com.
  • Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine: The annual New Year’s Eve Concert of Peace will feature soloists Janet Pittman and Gregory Purnhagen and be hosted by NBC news anchor Harry Smith.   • The Metropolitan Opera: The Metropolitan Opera will be performing a New Year’s Eve Gala of Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow and after the show there will be dinner and dancing. For more information and tickets, visit MetOpera.org.

The Bronx

  • New York Botanical Garden: From January 3-25, Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends will be participating in part with the annual Holiday Train Show which is on display. For more information, visit nybg.org.

Brooklyn

  • Prospect Park Fireworks: This free event includes hot refreshments, entertainment and view of the fireworks at midnight. Visit prospectpark.org for more information.
  • Coney Island Polar Bear Club Annual New Year’s Day Swim: Each year on Jan. 1, the Coney Island Polar Bear Club hosts the Atlantic Ocean swimming event that is open to the public and begins at 1pm.   • Resorts World Casino: Hosting a Hollywood-themed celebration including two floors of live bands and DJ’s, each ticket purchase will include a complimentary champagne toast, photo booth entry and party favors.
