ASTA CEO Resigns

In a surprising move, ASTA has announced the departure and resignation of William Maloney as CEO. Maloney has served ASTA in this capacity since 1999. ASTA's Board of Directors will begin the search for a replacement CEO immediately.

"Bill has served ASTA and the travel industry well and I appreciate all of his hard work. He carried us all through difficult times in the travel industry. I wish him well in his future endeavors," said ASTA president and chair, Chris Russo.

Maloney is 30-year veteran of the travel industry. Prior to joining ASTA, he was the vice president of travel industry sales for the Hertz Corp. in Park Ridge, NJ, where he built and led the U.S. travel industry sales force. He was responsible for the company's sales and marketing activities with travel agents, tour wholesalers, airlines, hotels and cruise lines.

He also served as senior vice president, sales and marketing, for Allnet Communication Services of Birmingham, MI, where he was responsible for sales, marketing and customer service activities for the $400 million corporation. Maloney has served on the boards of The Travel Institute, the National Academy Foundation and the Association of Travel Marketing Executives.
