It used to be that Labor Day marked the end of the vacation season. School was starting, beaches shut down, baseball was ending and football just starting. (Actually for me, baseball ended around May this year, thank you New York Mets). Life returned to normal.
But in a day and age when nobody works a traditional schedule, and people are looking for the best value for their money, it just makes sense that vacation season would not be limited to some arbitrary date on the calendar.
This is the perfect time to take a vacation for exactly the reasons mentioned above. For example, when was the last time you flew to Orlando without a slew of screaming kids on the plane? Or been at a resort where the main pool was as quiet as the "quiet" pool? Found a spot at a $5 blackjack table in Las Vegas?
Home-based travel agents might take this time of year to reach out to their single clients and those without kids to sell them a quiet or romantic holiday. Having a resort almost to themselves might be the selling point they need to change their minds. And the great deals are still in place. While some might be concerned about the weather (hurricane season is a factor in some Caribbean and Mexican destinations), many resorts and airlines are now throwing in weather guarantees to add peace of mind.
Now if only they could throw in guarantees with Met tickets.
