May 10, 2011 By: George Dooley Travel Agent

Expedia CruiseShipCenters reported that its first quarter sales figures showed a remarkable 32 percent growth in bookings over the same period last year.

"Much of this growth can be attributed to increasing traveler interest in exotic cruises which saw a 78 percent increase in bookings over the quarter," noted Matthew Eichhorst, president of Expedia CruiseShipCenters. "It is also a reflection of the fact that we continue to invest heavily in marketing, technology and support to help our agents grow their business."

Caribbean cruise bookings also saw a substantial increase with 41 percent growth, followed by Panama Canal voyages at 37 percent and Europe sailings at 21 percent.

These results follow a very impressive 2010 in which the agency added 22 new locations and 1,100 new agents. In addition, Expedia CruiseShipCenters also earned the Franchise Agency of the Year award from Norwegian Cruise Lines, Platinum Circle Club status from Viking River Cruises and Connoisseurs Club recognition from Oceania Cruises.
