Hong Kong Off to Strong Start in 2010

February 23, 2010 By: Meagan Drillinger

The year 2010 is off to a good start for Hong Kong tourism. James Tien, chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board released a statement saying that the total number of visitor arrivals during 2010's Chinese New Year Golden Week were up 16.9 percent when compared to 2009's.

In addition Mainland China has also shown strong growth. Visitor arrivals from January 1 through February 18 have already surpassed 5 million, which is an historic high for the country.

"We are greatly encouraged by the arrivals gain during the Chinese New Year," Tien says. "We believe the increase could mainly be attributed to the stabilizing global economy, which has revived consumers' sentiments to travel."
