Barceló Bávaro Beach Resort announced Tuesday a comprehensive renovation program that aims to transform the five-in-one hotel complex in the Dominican Republic into the most spectacular resort in the Caribbean. The first phase of the rejuvenation program was completed in December with the addition of 488 junior suites as Barceló Bávaro Palace Deluxe, which Travel Agent recently toured.

As the new luxury wing of the resort, Barceló Bávaro Palace Deluxe also brought with it a new concierge-style check-in as well as a new buffet restaurant, Las Brisas. Additionally, each junior suite at Barceló Bávaro Palace Deluxe offers a private balcony or terrace with views of the Caribbean Sea as well as a hydrotherapy whirlpool for two people on the suite's balcony or terrace.

The next stage of the renovation program, Barceló Bávaro Caribe Beach Deluxe, is scheduled for completion in December. This new offering promises to be the resort's most family-friendly category, featuring 180 family suites, each designed and equipped to meet the unique needs of an entire family. After the completion of the resort-wide rejuvenation project, which will be undertaken in a series of stages over the next several years, a total of 1,850 guest rooms and suites will be fully renovated.

In addition, the resort, upon its completion, will feature newly re-designed sports facilities. Nine holes are currently undergoing re-design by course architect P.B. Dye, while the remaining nine holes are still available for play. This first phase of the renovation is scheduled to be complete by December when all 18 holes will be open and ready for play. The second phase of this re-design will then take place later in 2010, resulting in a complete 18-hole course.
