Brazil Prepares for Upcoming Events with New Hotel Construction

March 9, 2010 By: Joe Pike

By now, the world knows Brazil is hosting the 2016 Olympics and the 2014 World Cup. However, not many know about all the behind–the-scenes action taking place in preparation for these major global events.

The Brazilian Hotel Industry is particularly gearing up for the events with extensive new hotel construction and expansion plans. Brazil is slated to spend nearly six billion dollars to strengthen hotels before 2012. In the host cities alone, 51 new hotels will be opened for $1.86 billion, accounting for 17 percent of the total reported. The areas with the largest expected growth are Manaus and Salvador, with Manaus to receive close to $500 million and Salvador nearly $200 million.

Hotel das Cataratas, recently renovated in October, is an Orient-Express Hotel offering travelers first class accommodations and luxury in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Brazil. This is the only hotel located within the Iguaçu National Park, with the world famous Iguaçu Falls just a two-minute stroll away.

Opened in November 2009, the Arena Hotel invites guests to experience comfort and convenience. The hotel is situated in a prime location in front of the world-famous Copacabana Beach and within minutes of Ipanema, Sugar Loaf, Christ the Redeemer Statue, theatres, shops and nightlife.
