Concierges Share Unique Requests

October 29, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox

Perhaps it's the overall wackiness of the holiday, but several travel sites are running articles on crazy requests made to concierges and general managers at hotels.

MSNBC has some fun stories about getting sheep for a sheep dog to herd (because what good is a sheep dog if he's not herding sheep?), seeking out a Russian-speaking dentist for a late-night extraction and making a care-package of Kit-Kat bars. The Independent Traveler, on the other hand, shares some tales of arranging a battlefield baptism, unique pet accommodations and Christmas celebrations several weeks early.

While the stories are hilarious to read, they do underscore the importance of qualified concierges at hotels who know how to get what guests need. (Read David Eisen's interview with The Stafford Hotel's head concierge Frank Laino for more details on the business.) The experiences a good concierge can create go a long way towards generating word-of-mouth, a priceless coin among travelers and in the industry.

What are some bizarre requests you've experienced? Comment below to tell your stories!
