Embassy Suites to Expand in U.S., Latin America Cities

August 19, 2008 By: Kirk Cassels

Embassy Suites Hotels will open 62 hotels over the next three years, expanding on its current portfolio of 192 hotels, during the strongest development pipeline in the brand's 24-year history.  The majority of the new hotels will be the new Design Option III prototype, which allows developers to build an Embassy Suites on less land, with more efficient use of space and lower construction costs. The first Design Option III hotel, the Embassy Suites Jackson-Ridgeland, is slated to open in November in Mississippi.

"We went from five approvals a year in 2005, to 22 in 2006, up to 30 in 2007, and this year we expect to do more than 30, largely in part to the new prototype," said Jim Holthouser, senior vice president, brand management, Embassy Suites Hotels. "We are well on our way to exceeding our goal of 300 hotels open, under construction or in the pipeline by 2010."

Embassy Suites is expanding its growth in Latin America with the scheduled openings of properties in Valencia, Venezuela; San Jose, Costa Rica; Tijuana, Mexico; and Panama City, Panama. The hotel will also open city locations in the U.S., including Denver, New Orleans, Memphis, Houston, St. Louis, and Miami, as well as airport locations in Columbus, OH; Jacksonville, FL; Tucson, AZ; and Indianapolis, IN.
