Virgin Hotels Plans to Debut Property in Palm Springs

Virgin Hotels has announced plans to open a new hotel in Palm Springs, California, in late 2018.

The new property will include 150 Chambers and Grand Chambers Suites, as well as multiple dining and drinking outlets. There will also be a rooftop terrace offering views of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains.

Once opened, hotel guests will have access to event space from the Palm Spring Art Museum, which will offer guests complimentary VIP tickets to concerts, movies and other performances, along with a range of other galleries, vintage shopping, and other hot spots and popular restaurants.

For outdoor activities, visitors can explore the nearby Joshua Tree, affording miles of trails and scenic outlooks.

Hotel Zeppelin Slated to Open in San Francisco's Union Square

Pebblebrook Hotel Trust is slated to open the Hotel Zeppelin this April in Union Square, located in San Francisco.

The property will be the newest member of the Unofficial “Z” Collection, and is a collaboration between Dawson Design Associates and PEB. When it opens, the property will comprise 196 guestrooms, including 20 suites.

The hotel will also have a 3,000-square-foot meeting and event space, as well as the Zeppelin Café, curated by Bulldog Coffee and a game lounge anchored by a peace sign and called The Wreckroom.

Hotel Zeppelin will join Hotel Zetta, Hotel Zelos and Hotel Zephyr as part of PEB’s Unofficial “Z” Collection.

Katamama

Bali Welcomes the Katamama Hotel This March 

Preferred Hotels & Resorts has announced that it will open The Katamama this March, located on Petitenget Beach in Seminyak, next to the award-winning Potato Head Beach Club

The property was designed by Indonesian architect Andra Martin in collaboration with PTT Family, and will be the first Preferred Hotels & Resorts Legend Collection property in Bali.

Comprising 58 suites, all decorated with traditional Indonesian influences, the hotel will also have bespoke design elements crafted by local artisans. The Katamama Suites will have king size beds with custom-made artisanal furnishings and mid-century pieces. All suites overlook the exterior gardens and the rooftop suites have a private interior staircase leading up to a rooftop garden with views of the Indian Ocean.

Amenities  include an in-house gym, the Akademi Centre of Mixology” created by mixologist Dre Masso and a specialty Spanish restaurant. There will also be a 1,399 square foot pool set in a tropical garden.

Preferred Hotels & Resorts Legend Collection Set to Debut in Shanghai

Preferred Hotels & Resorts is scheduled to open Wanda Reign on the Bund in China this fall. The property will mark the first Preferred Hotels & Resorts Legend Collection hotel in Shanghai.

Designed by Foster & Partners, this hotel will have an Art Deco influence aimed at integrating architecture styles of different cultures with classical art forms originating in Shanghai, as well as the city’s flower; the Magnolia.

The Wanda Reign on the Bund will have 193 guestrooms, including 14 suites and a 3,100 square foot Chairman Suite affording views of The Bund, Huangpu River and Pudong Skyline. 

Guestrooms will have wireless control dashboards, valet service boxes and exclusive Hermes or L’Occitane amenities. Guests staying at the property will also have access to five food and beverage experiences, including MARC, a French fine-dining restaurant by two-star Michelin chef Marc Meneau

Starwood Announces W Madrid Hotel Scheduled For 2018

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has announced its plans to expand its Spanish presence with the opening of W Madrid in 2018. 

Owned by Merryland Inversiones, the W Madrid will be located on the Plaza de Canalejas in a 19th-century building. Barcelona welcomed the nation's first W in 2009, and Michael Wale, president of Starwood Hotels & Resorts for EMEA, noted this hotel will make Spain the only country in Europe with two Ws.

Rockwell Group will oversee the renovation, including "a full restoration of historical elements."

Following the launches of W Hotels in Istanbul, Barcelona, St. Petersburg, London, Paris and Verbier, W Amsterdam became the seventh W Hotel in Europe when it opened in October 2015.

The W Hotels Worldwide to Debut its First Hotel in North America 

W Hotels Worldwide has announced that it will debut its second alpine hotel and its first in North America; The W Aspen and The Sky Residences at W Aspen, scheduled to open in time for the 2017 winter ski season.

W Aspen, formerly the Sky Hotel, will be situated at the base of Aspen Mountain. Designed by Nemaworkshop in partnership with Rowland+Broughton Architecture and W’s in-house design team, the hotel is being billed as a "modern day mountain chalet" with 88 guestrooms including six suites and 11 W-branded fractional residences. The property will have a 1,600 square foot outdoor patio and a 12,000 square foot rooftop bar and pool overlooking Aspen Mountain.

A full service ski shop will provide guests with equipment rentals and storage capabilities, while an 1,100 square foot FIT (the W brand’s modern gym concept) will help travelers stay in shape. 

The hotel will also have more than 1,600 square feet of event and meeting space.

11 Howard From Design Hotels to Open in NYC in March

Design Hotels has announced that its new member, 11 Howard, will open in New York City's SoHo district this March. 

Designed to embody a Scandanavian architectural style, the new hotel will have a culinary concept created by restaurateur Stephen Starr and a co-working space, the 11H Collective. In addition, the project was spearheaded by Aby Rosen, who is also responsible for Gramercy Park Hotel.

The 221 room hotel will be designed by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard of Danish design studio Space Copenhagen, in collaboration with Anda Andrei. All rooms have high ceilings and windows for extra natural light, with a material palette of subtly-hued variations of wood, warm metals, velvet, and wool.

Also, 11 Howard will collaborate with young, contemporary artists including Katie Yang, Dan Attoe and Hiroshi Sugimoto, as well as the Global Poverty Project and Conscious Commerce
