Sign of the Times? Starwood Drops Management Contracts

December 30, 2008 By: David Eisen

Sagging hotel revenues may be catching up with the large hotel companies, forcing them to take cost-saving measures. Starwood has taken four: it's dropped management contracts on W Honolulu Diamond Head and three Tahitian properties— Sheraton Hotel Tahiti, Sheraton Moorea and Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa, which has been under the Luxury Collection flag since 2002.

Starwood will officially end its affiliation with W Honolulu effective January 9, 2009, while disengaging with the other three properties sometime in the new year. Starwood will continue to manage three other properties in the Tahiti region: The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort, Le Meridien Tahiti and Le Meridien Bora Bora.
