June 3, 2008 By: David Eisen

Wyndham Worldwide will augment its portfolio of brands with the acquisition of U.S. Franchise Systems and its Microtel Inns & Suites and Hawthorn Suites brands from a unit of Global Hyatt Corp. The transaction is expected to be completed within the next 60 days.

Wyndham Worldwide, which is a pure franchiser, will gain Microtel and its chain of 292 economy segment hotels and 91 properties from Hawthorn Suites, an all-suites, extended-stay brand. The two brands together total 29,000 rooms.

Steven Rudnitsky, Wyndham Hotel Group chairman and CEO, said his group is committed to enhancing support for franchisees of Microtel and Hawthorn and that their hotels "receive maximum benefit from our comprehensive distribution platform, information technology capabilities, field services and sales and marketing functions."

Wyndham Hotel Group encompasses more than 6,500 franchised hotels under such brands as Wyndham, Ramada, Days Inn and Howard Johnson. Visit
