InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) will continue its push into India in a major way over the next few years. The company has announced a confirmed development pipeline of 31 hotels to be opened across major and secondary cities across the country. This will add over 7,600 rooms across IHG’s three brands in India, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, and Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts. This is a significant addition, considering IHG currently has 11 hotels in India. The upcoming hotels in the pipeline will be located in New Delhi in the North; Bangalore, Chennai, and Cochin in the South; Kolkata in the East; and Mumbai and Pune in the West.

IHG’s preferred business model will be to manage the hotels on behalf of the owners. Some of the partners IHG is working with include Amrapali Group, Riverbank Developers, Brigade Group, Today Group, Emaar MGF, Kuwait-based KGA Group, and L&T Arun Excello Commercial Projects Ltd.

In related news, IHG has something to crow about. Yesterday, one of its managed hotels in India, Crowne Plaza Today Gurgaon, won the Best Luxury/Upscale Hotel of the Year Award at the 5th Hotel Investment Conference for South Asia (HICSA). The winners were decided by voting by all registered HICSA delegates at the first ever HICSA Hotels of the Year Awards 2009.
