The Travel Industry Association this year is taking part in the global celebration of World Tourism Day. The annual event, set this year for September 27, is designed to raise awareness of the importance of travel and tourism. The event is sanctioned by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This year's theme is "Tourism Enriches" and it shines a light on tourism's contributions on a personal, family, community and national level. In the U.S., TIA is leading the promotion of the value of travel and the benefits that come from active programs that share a region's heritage, culture, lifestyle and attractions. In this country alone, according to TIA data, almost 7.5 million jobs are directly attributed to travel and tourism. Materials produced by the World Tourism Organization and TIA will be posted at the TIA site, [www.tia.org].
