InterContinental Inks 4,500-room China Deal

InterContinental Hotels Group says it has signed contracts with Chengdu International Exhibition & Convention Group to manage six new hotels comprising more than 4,500 rooms in Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou. The agreement bolster's the company's target of adding 50,000 to 60,000 rooms in China to its portfolio by the end of 2008. Two of the new hotels will be branded as InterContinental properties, three will fly the Holiday Inn flag and one will be an Express by Holiday Inn property. The InterContinental Century City Chengdu and two Holiday Inn hotels will open as part of the new $620 million New Century City international convention and exhibition center, which also will include shopping, entertainment, a golf course, offices and residences. The InterContinental Resort Jiuzhai Paradise the Holiday Inn Jiuzhai Jarpo and the Express by Holiday Inn Jiuzhai Jarpo will open in the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Areas as part of Jiuzhai Paradise.
