Four unions working for JAL International may hold a strike from Wednesday, June 17 through Friday June 19.
The JAL Pilots Union, representing 660 members, plans a 72-hour strike, with a union representing 1,150 cabin crew planning 24-hour disruption.
Two unions representing 750 ground staff plan a six-hour strike on Wednesday.
The airline said all domestic, international, passenger and cargo flights are expected to run as normal on June 17 and 18. But the pilots’ union action into a third day “may affect some JAL domestic services in the form of flight delays or cancellations”.
“The unions are still in negotiations with the JAL Group management,” an airline statement said.
This announcement comes after cuts in flight frequency on eight overseas routes due to lower demand caused by the economic crisis.
"In view of the slow recovery in air transport demand, JAL will strive to improve profitability by adjusting capacity," JAL said. "It will maintain the reduced flight frequency on routes to Beijing, Shanghai (Pudong), Hong Kong and Taipei, which were decreased in the period of March to June 2009, for a new term from July 1, 2009. In addition to these routes, the number of weekly flights to Seoul (Incheon) and New Delhi from Tokyo (Narita), as well as from Osaka (Kansai) to Shanghai (Pudong) and Seoul (Incheon), will also be reduced for a short term period till the end of October 2009," JAL says.
For customers who have already made reservations on flights that are subject to the change, alternative JAL flights with different timings will be offered.
