On Site: Inside Adare Manor

ADARE - As we made our way from Killarney to Limerick as part of Brian Moore International Tours' fam trip in Ireland, Travel Agent stopped in the western village of Adare to tour the five-star Adare Manor.

The luxury property is set on expansive grounds of streams, fields and gardens in the heart of County Limerick's Adare. The Manor was built in 1832 by the second Earl of Dunraven and offers a selection of room types (62 bedrooms in the Manor; 46 villas on the grounds; 11 Clubhouse bedrooms; and 22 Townhouse rooms). We loved the high ceilings, hand carved wooden fixtures and the decorative fireplaces (there are 52 chimneys throughout the Manor, one for each week of the year).

Travel Agent was taken through the Drawing Room and Library, where light lunches and afternoon teas are served daily. We also toured the Oakroom Restaurant, where breakfast and dinner are served. Romantic touch: A section of the restaurant is illuminated solely by candles, which, we were told, has inspired dozens of marriage proposals.

In addtion to the 18-holde Robert Trent Jones Senior-designed golf course, the property offers fishing on the River Maigue, bicycle rental, a full-service spa, hot air ballooning, falconry, horse riding and an indoor heated swimming pool.

There are five room categories in the main house starting with a Standard Room and ending with the Presidential Suite. The rooms were last renovated in 2008, but undergo constant refurbishments. All the rooms were outfitted with brand new flat screen televisions just a few weeks ago.

Adare Manor is just 25 minutes from Shannon International Airport. Shannon is a U.S. CBP facility, which means it offers pre-clearance facilities to U.S. travelers.
