A recent survey was conducted by Autoclick.co.uk of over 650 people in the Centro region of Italy to determine where in Rome locals like to visit the most.
Of those surveyed, 29 percent of Italians say the Coliseum is their favorite location to visit, followed by Old Town at 11 percent and the Imperial Forums, Trevi Fountain and the Basilica of Saint Peter.
Built between 70–80 AD, the Coliseum is now partially ruined due to earthquake damage and stone-robbers, yet remains a symbol of Imperial Rome, as well as one of the city's most popular tourist attractions with an average of 4 million visitors a year. It is the world's 39th most popular tourist destination. Altogether, Rome receives an average of 7-10 million tourists annually.
Also ranked in the top ten responses were the Piazza di Spagna, Trastevere, Piazza Navona, Pantheon and Gianicolo.
