What Hotels Did George Clooney Visit for His Venice Wedding? (VIDEO)

In Venice this weekend, crowds of tourists and paparazzi "cheered and whistled from the banks of Grand Canal" this weekend as Oscar-winning actor George Clooney and internationally lauded lawyer Amal Alamuddin emerged in public for the first time as a married couple.

According to the Guardian and other sources, the couple was married at the “seven-star” Aman Canal Grande resort on Saturday. And the event reportedly had all the trappings of a true Hollywood fairy-tale, with Clooney arriving in black tie on a motor boat (appropriately called Amore). One hour later, the couple was married by Clooney’s friend Walter Veltroni, the former mayor of Rome.

The details of the wedding and subsequent reception have been kept under wraps as all staff of the resort are bound by a confidentiality agreement. We hear that the guest list included actors Bill Murray, Ellen Barkin, Emily Blunt and Matt Damon; model Cindy Crawford, U2 frontman Bono and US Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Before Saturday's nuptials, guests were spotted at the Belmond Hotel Cipriani, where People reports Clooney has been a regular "for years" while attending the Venice Film Festival and has even helped create some of the libations on the hotel's Gabbiano Bar's cocktail menu. The hotel "exudes Venetian flair," the story notes, with local Murano glass and other handmade artifacts, antique furnishings and works from local artisans.

A bar hall was set aside for a welcome celebration on Friday evening, and on Thursday gardeners freshened up the grounds with hundreds of white and pink Cyclamen blooms.

No word yet where all the A-List guests stayed, but beyond the Aman and the Cip, we imagine some celebs would want to check out the Luna Hotel Baglioni's new San Giorgio Terrace suite with more than 1,000 square feet of outdoor terraces overlooking San Giorgio Island. And last year, The Gritti Palace opened The Redentore Terrazza Suite, a two-story residence on the palazzo’s top floor equipped with a sprawling terrace (the perfect spot to host a cocktail party). Accessed by private elevator, the suite also has a small pool overlooking the Grand Canal.
