Viceroy Zihuatanejo Celebrates Dia de los Muertos

The Day of the Dead will come alive at Viceroy Zihuatanejo with a program of art, dancing and food. Rather than a day of sadness, El Dia de los Muertos is a vibrant national holiday when Mexican people remember and celebrate the lives of their passed family members. Viceroy is continuing the tradition by partnering with a local art gallery, GALART, to offer a special Day of the Dead Program from October 31 through November 2.

The program will include internationally known Mexican artist Jose Antonio Madrazo, who will exhibit a special collection of works in remembrance of Nelson Mandela. His "New Age" folk art - incorporating traditional elements of Mexican culture including Day of the Dead motifs - is found in major museums worldwide.

Both pre-hispanic and contemporary dancers will be performing at the resort, as well. A Day of the Dead altar will be created, with sand sculptures and other themed elements. Homemade pan de muerto, a traditional bread served during the holiday, will be included as part of the complimentary morning in-room coffee service.
