Jakes Schedules "Farm Dinner" Dates into 2012

Jakes, a bohemian-style boutique resort in Treasure Beach on Jamaica’s South Coast, has added 2012 calendar dates for their monthly Farm Dinner series.

Held on Saturday evenings, the dinners feature organic dishes prepared and served on-site at local farms. Conducted in partnership with Liz Solms, a chef and local sustainable agriculture expert, the program works with and supports the small independent farmers of the Pedro Plains, known as Jamaica’s “bread basket.”

Upon arrival at sunset, dinner guests are greeted with a fresh cocktail whipped up with farm-grown fruit. They are seated at a white-linen table in the middle of a working field, surrounded by a ring of white lanterns.

Each dinner is prepared table-side and is served family-style. The rotating menu reflects seasonal local produce and is made with organic ingredients. Dishes have included chèvre on toast with homemade lime pepper jelly and organic lamb with coconut milk and spices.

The evening meals also have various specialists, such as honey experts and wine sommeliers, as guest hosts that lead tastings of locally-produced fare.

Jakes has supported local farmers and fishermen since its founding in 1995 as a seaside restaurant.

Upcoming dates for the Farm Dinner series are November 19 and December 17, 2011, and January 14, February 11, March 17, and April 14 in 2012. The dinners can accommodate up to 35 people. Rates are US $95 per person and include transfers.
