Jamaica Airport Blocked, Flights Canceled

The state of emergency in Kingston and St. Andrew in Jamaica continues to disrupt travel in the region, as the Department of State reports that clashes between police and gunmen have sporadically blocked access to the Norman Manley International Airport. Air Jamaica, Jamaica's flagship carrier, canceled flights on Monday and has altered flights for Tuesday.

*    Flight JM015, scheduled to depart Kingston at 6:10 a.m., departed at 7:40 a.m. and arrived in New York (JFK) at 12:25 p.m.
*    Flight JM014, scheduled to depart New York (JFK) at 12:15 p.m., will now depart at 1:40 p.m. and arrive Kingston at 4.30 p.m.
*    Flight JM031, scheduled to depart Kingston at 6 a.m., departed at 8 a.m. and arrived in Fort Lauderdale at 10:40 a.m.
*    Flight JM030, scheduled to depart Fort Lauderdale at 9:55 a.m., will now depart at 11:40 a.m. and arrive Kingston at 12:20 p.m. Operations continue as scheduled at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay

“We have made these flight adjustments to ensure the safety of our passengers and staff especially when traveling at night or early morning, due to the present security concerns in Kingston” said Bruce Nobles,  Air Jamaica’s president and CEO. “All other Air Jamaica flights are operating as scheduled.”

American Airlines has also canceled scheduled service to and from Kingston. For Tuesday, May 25 and Wendesday May 26, the carrier has shutdown the following flights from Miami:

*    Flight 17223, scheduled to depart Miami at 10:20 a.m. and arrive in Jamaica at 11 a.m.
*    Flight 1735, scheduled to depart Florida at 1:10 p.m. and arrive in Jamaica at 1:50 p.m.
*    Flight 1049, scheduled to depart Miami at 7:55 p.m. and arrive in Kingston at 8:35 p.m.

For Kingston to Jamaica, AA has canceled two flights for Wednesday, May 26 and Thursday, May 27:

*    Flight 1504, scheduled to depart Kingston at 7 a.m. and arrive in Miami at 9:50 a.m.
*    Flight1376, scheduled to depart Jamaica at 12:05 p.m. and arrive in Florida at 2:55 p.m.
*    Flight 628, scheduled to depart Kingston at 2:55 p.m. and arrive in Miami at 5:50 p.m.

To date, JetBlue has not canceled any flights to or from Kingston. The carrier's one daily roundtrip between New York (JFK) and Kingston has been operating on schedule. Customers already booked to travel in/out of Kingston through Thursday, May 27 may rebook their travel by Wednesday, June 2 without fee or increase in airfare.  If the customer wants to move outside of these dates the change fee will be waived but any fare difference will apply.
