Resort Review - Beaches, Ocho Rios

The Greek Village
The Greek Village is one of four distinct neighborhoods at Beaches Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

On a recent visit to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Travel Agent had the opportunity to experience the newly renovated Beaches Ocho Rios Resort & Golf Club. Formerly Beaches Boscobel, the property rang in 2013 with a new name and a new look, and we can say with certainty that this is a great spot for both kids and adults.

The $30 million renovation unveiled four distinct villages, additional restaurants, an enhanced kids program and more.

Our Beaches experience began the moment we stepped off the plane when we were whisked off to the Sandals lounge at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. From there, we were chauffeured to the resort via private transfer. Good to know: Those booking the luxury VIP transfer will have access to Wi-Fi for the entire ride.

We stayed in room #2302 in the Greek Village. Our room had a king bed, deep soaking tub and a private daybed out on the balcony, where we were sure to soak up the beautiful Jamaican sun.

The Greek Village is one of the four neighborhoods to debut at the resort. It sits on a hill overlooking the resort’s private beach. True to picturesque Greek architecture, the buildings are whitewashed and lined with cobalt blue. There are 59 oceanfront rooms on three different levels, named after the three most-renowned Greek islands: Santorini, Mykonos and Naxos. The Village also has the new Calypso Bar and OPA Sunset Bar. Other neighborhoods include the French Village, the Italian Village and the Caribbean Village.

The French Village brings a new charm to the property, housing upgraded suites and amenities including the wedding lounge, Red Lane Spa, piano bar, Neptune’s restaurant and a fitness center. Additionally, it has the French Terrace, which overlooks the ocean and a new quiet pool. Guests can also refresh themselves at the Le Frappe Juice & Smoothie Bar, as well as the Saint Germaine Bistro & Creperie.

The Italian Village, home to the resort’s grand reception and lobby area, has 24 rooms and suites, including the Dolce Vita Penthouse. The Venetian Restaurant has been transformed, complete with chandeliers made from wine bottles, custom seating, wood plank floors and a new boutique bar.

To round out the collection, the Caribbean Village’s casual and natural island decor provides a serene atmosphere for guests during their stay. This village is the closest to the main swimming pool and allows for easy access to restaurants, live entertainment and the Pirates Island Waterpark.

In addition to Pirates Island, enhanced offerings for children include Kids Camp and Kids Scuba programs. New hangouts for teens and tweens, such as the Xbox Play Lounge, Scratch DJ Academy, Trench Town and Martha Stewart Crafts Studio, also enhance the experience.

Beaches Ocho Rios is also welcoming new Sesame Street friends to the property this year: Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch. As a Beaches Ocho Rios exclusive, Oscar the Grouch will treat kids to a pre-show titled “Oscar’s Sing-A-Long” and a signature activity, “From Trash to Treasure,” as well as photo opportunities.

New dining options include Dino’s Pizzeria (be sure to tell your clients to try the jerk-style pizza) and the BBQ Park, which serves up ribs, burgers, hot dogs and fries.

Beaches Ocho Rios is putting the finishing touches on all of its common areas. This includes expanded decks and walkways, upgraded pool bars, renovated tennis courts, a gift shop, a salon, the concierge lounge and more.

Families will want to take advantage of the adventure options. Beaches Ocho Rios can arrange for groups to explore nearby attractions, like ziplining, bobsledding and climbing Dunn’s River Falls. Guests can also enjoy unlimited rounds of golf with greens fees and roundtrip transfers included at the nearby Sandals Golf & Country Club.
