Yuki Tanaka has been named Executive Director of the Japan National Tourism Office (JNTO) in New York effective June 20. Tanaka comes to the post from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, with substantial experience in Japan’s transportation management field.
Her career in transport policies ranges from tourism, maritime transport to policy studies. Her last position was at the Japan International Transport Institute (JITI). Ms. Tanaka holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo and a master’s degree in environmental economics and urban and regional planning studies from the University of London.
She replaces Shuichi Kameyama. Kameyama served in the three-year assignment since June 2008 and is returning to Tokyo. He is credited with the promotion of tourism to Japan in spite of several tough challenges such as the global economic recession, the stronger Japanese currency market, swine flu, and the historic natural disaster that hit Japan’s northeast coast in March.
Kameyama said: “I am leaving with a lot of memories and unforgettable experiences, and I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to many industry partners.”
Kameyama will return to a post in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
