Major Earthquake Strikes Japan

April 7, 2011 By: Deanna Ting

Less than one month following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11, Japan has been struck with yet another major quake and tsunami warning.

The 7.4-magnitude quake hit Japan on Thursday night and, according to officials, its epicenter was located 25 miles under the sea off the coast of the Miyagi Prefecture, some 60 miles from the eastern coast of Sendai, approximately 90 miles from Fukushima and 215 miles from Tokyo. The Associated Press is reporting that buildings as far away as Tokyo were seen to be shaking from today's earthqauke. The quake that hit Japan last month registered at 9.0 on the Richter scale.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning for the same area that was destroyed by last month's tsunami, estimating that waves of up to nearly seven feet may hit shore.

Since the 9.0 earthquake that took place last month, hundreds of aftershocks have taken place.
