Marriott Adds More Japan Hotels With Mori DealMarch 1, 2016
Marriott International and Japanese lodging company Mori Trust Group have signed deals for five hotels in Japan that will operate under the Marriott Hotels brand, doubling the number of Marriott Hotels in the country and boosting the company's overall presence in Japan by a third. Upon completion of the rebranding, Marriott International will have 20 properties in Japan.
Over the next two years, Mori Trust Group will renovate five existing Laforet properties and rebrand them as Marriott Hotels with approximately 840 rooms. The agreements extend a relationship between the two companies that has already opened the Tokyo Marriott Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott Tokyo Station Hotel and Courtyard by Marriott Shin-Osaka Station Hotel.
The five rebranded hotels – Lake Biwa Marriott Hotel (formerly Laforet Biwako), Nanki-Shirahama Marriott Hotel (formerly Laforet Nanki-Shirahama), Fuji Marriott Hotel (formerly Laforet Yamanakako), Izu Marriott Hotel Shuzenji (formerly Laforet Shuzenji), and Karuizawa Marriott Hotel (formerly Laforet Naka-Karuizawa) – are all part of the large-scale hotel renovation plan announced by Mori Trust Group in October 2015 and an investment of approximately 16 billion yen.
As the owner and operator of the Laforet Hotels & Resorts hotel chain, Mori Trust Group currently has 32 properties with 7,200 rooms throughout the country.
