Winter in Kyoto

November 5, 2009 By: Meagan Drillinger

For the fourth consecutive year Kyoto is bringing back its Winter Special campaign. Starting December 1 and continuing for four months, the promotion is offering several exhibitions, displays and events all over Kyoto.

February 2010 will be devoted to the Restaurant Winter Special, a culinary experience exhibiting Kyoto's traditional meals. More than 100 restaurants are participating, offering prix fix menus from around $55 or lunch and $110 for dinner.

The Hanatouro (Flower Lantern) event, organized by the City government and local volunteers, is one of the most popular events in the Winter Special campaign. Traditionally decorated lanterns dot the streets, gardens and historic landmarks. The lanterns are decorated with local materials such as limestone, bamboo and lacquered wood.
