Desert Respite

Evason Ma’In
Guest rooms at Evason Ma’In have furniture made from locally sourced, sustainable material.

Unveiled in February 2009, the Evason Ma’In Hot Springs & Six Senses Spa in Jordan wows visitors with facilities that take full advantage of a fantastic setting—at the lowest point on Earth.

An hour from Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport, but seemingly worlds away, Ma’In finds a mention in the Bible’s Book of Numbers and Deuteronomy. Now this valley, 866 feet below sea level, has a resort to boot.

Designed to reflect the surrounding landscape, the resort uses locally sourced materials in its interior spaces. In the lobby, traditional lanterns hang above wooden lounge chairs piled with oversized linen pillows. Oil lamps emit a jasmine fragrance.

The inspired natural design extends to the guest rooms. Our Evason Room was outfitted with furniture made from sustainable sources: palm, bamboo, plantation teak, papier-mâché and mulberry bark. Outside, we found a balcony where we could sip freshly brewed espresso and contemplate the mountains.

The best rooms are the two generously sized Royal Suites, each with six balconies looking out to the mountains and waterfalls. These two-bedroom suites have their own spa plus bathroom Jacuzzi. The top-floor Honeymoon Suite also has wonderful views.

Tips for booking: Request a room on the upper floors (six and seven) for the best views of the Dead Sea. Waterfall views are also nice. For VIP reservations, contact Lora Artiola (011-962-5324-5500, [email protected]).

Six Senses Spa

The star of the show at the Evason Ma’In is the Six Senses Spa. Using natural and indigenous ingredients like jasmine and Dead Sea mud, treatments are inspired by the resort’s Jordanian setting on the historical spice, silk and frankincense routes. Spa Manager Ayman Alamat (011-962-5324-5500, [email protected]) recommends signature treatments like the Dates Journey and the Hammam Ma’In Signature Journey. Olive oil massages and Olive Grove Scrubs are also quite popular. Note: When your clients indulge in a spa treatment, they can stay at the spa the whole day.
