Grand Hyatt Kauai Goes Non-Smoking; Unveils Hypo-Allergenic Rooms

June 22, 2011 By: Jena Tesse Fox

Good news for healthy travelers: The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa has announced its status as a non-smoking hotel, as well as the introduction of 20 hypo-allergenic rooms. The Respire by Hyatt ─ Hypo-Allergenic Rooms are specially suited to address the needs of guests with asthma, allergies and other respiratory sensitivities. In the interest of employee and guest health, the resort’s shift to non-smoking means guests will not be allowed to smoke in guest rooms or on lanais in addition to most public areas, restaurants, and pools. (Smokers, fear not: There will still be a number of smoking areas available.) These changes go along with the recent guest room renovation in which low-VOC paints were used to reduce harmful emissions.

Though the resort says that all guest rooms undergo stringent cleaning protocols, Respire rooms are designed to eliminate up to 98 percent of airborne viruses and bacteria, as well as pollen and other irritants commonly found in indoor environments. Visually, we hear that the only difference in Respire rooms is the presence of the free-standing air purifier; beyond that, the rooms are just like the standard guest rooms.

Each Respire room utilizes PURE Solution’s purification techniques. Each hotel room is treated to minimize allergens and irritants on all surfaces and fabrics. Additionally, all mattresses and pillows are encased in a protective hypo-allergenic covering. The air in the room is continuously circulated through a medical-grade purifier, filtering out up to 98 percent of impurities. The room is maintained and re-certified every six months.
