Kauai Golf Course Gets UpgradesMarch 3, 2011 By: Jena Tesse Fox
Good news for Hawaii-bound golfers: The renovation of Kauai's Prince Golf Course, located at Princeville Resort on the island's north shore, has been expanded to include additional course upgrades, and the firm of Robert Trent Jones II has signed on to oversee the project.
The Prince Course closed on January 29 in order to complete a bunker renovation that began in September 2010. In addition to the bunker project, the scope of the renovation will now include refurbishment of the greens with new Seashore Paspalum grass, tee leveling throughout the course, improved drainage, and installation of state-of-the-art irrigation to ensure world-class turf conditions on the course. The greens renovation will also include minor reshaping of the 1st and 18th holes. To complete the renovation and allow sufficient time for the new greens to grow in, the reopening of the Prince Course is now tentatively planned for October 2011.
The of RTJII will serve as lead architect on the project, under the direction of Chairman and Master Architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and President and Chief Design Officer Bruce Charlton.
Heritage Links, recognized as a Certified Builder by the Golf Course Builders Association of America, has been selected to manage all golf and club operations in addition to handling the construction and renovation work. Heritage Links also completed the renovation of the Princeville Makai Course alongside RTJII in 2009.
The Princeville Prince Golf Course, originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., opened in 1990 and is ranked by Golf Digest as the number one course in the State of Hawaii and is the only course in the state to be recognized on the magazine's list of America's "Top 100 Greatest Courses" for 2009/2010.
